Történetük immár 29 évre nyúlik vissza, amikoris Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, és Al Sobrante létrehozta a Sweet Children nevű triót. Hamarosan túl gyerekesnek találták a nevet, ezért 1990-ben Green Day-re változtatták. Ugyanezen évben kiadták első nagylemezüket 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours címmel. Al kilépett a formációból, mert tovább akart tanulni, távol a keleti parttól. Billie és Mike meginvitálta az ekkor a Larry Livermore által alapított The Lookouts-ban doboló Tré Cool-t, aki természetesen elfogadta a meghívást.

Rea 2011. augusztus 29. Borzasztóan sajnálom, hogy ilyen sokáig nem jöttem frissel, de tényleg nem tudtam ezzel foglalkozni. Na, de most jöhet, ami kimaradt... A Kerrang "50 legnagyszerűbb rocksztár" elnevezésű toplistáján Billie Joe a 10. helyet kapta. Néhány jellemző dolgot is megemlítenek róla. [Elolvasom] Meglepetés show-val kedveskedett rajongóinak a Green Day. A Tiki Bar nevű helyen léptek fel, többek közt előadták az It's Fuck Time-ot, a Stray Heart-ot, és az Amy-t. Utóbbi dalt a Cisztás Fibrózis Alapítvány számára készítették és egyben egy Amy Winehouse emlékdal is. A Stray Heart videójáról pedig nem tudni biztosan,hogy valóban ezt a dalt adták-e elő éppen, vagy esetleg egy másikat. De később biztosan lesz még róla felvétel. [Megnézem] Itt egy elég rövid interjú az Emily's Army-val az Associated Press jóvoltából.
